Export your Messenger chat to PDF

Drop your Messenger export here or click to choose a file — .json or .zip, any size

Drop the zip or message_1.json from Facebook's Download your information, then export a clean or court-ready PDF of the conversation.

Nothing is uploaded. Your chat is parsed entirely in your browser — it never touches a server.

A preview of the reading view. Open your own export and it fills with your conversation, in this app’s own colours.

Three steps, under a minute

  1. 1

    Request your data

Accounts Center → Your information and permissions → Download your information → Download or transfer information → Facebook → Some of your information → Messages → format JSON (HTML isn't offered for Messenger).

  2. 2

    Open it here

Drop the zip Facebook emails you, or a single message_1.json. Nothing is uploaded.

  3. 3

    Export your PDF

Click Export PDF and choose a tier: free, Unlimited ($9), or Court-ready ($19) with Bates stamps and SHA-256 hashes.

What you get

Free preview PDF

Export the first 500 messages with a small watermark at no cost — enough to check formatting before you buy.

Unlimited PDF, $9 one-time

Every message in the conversation, with embedded photos and no watermark. One payment unlocks it on every export you open, forever.

Court-ready PDF, $19 one-time

Adds a cover page with case caption and exhibit label, sequential message numbers, Bates stamps, the SHA-256 hash of your export file and of the generated PDF, a verification page, and a prefilled certificate template for India, the US, UK, Australia, Canada or a generic international version.

Decodes Meta's text encoding

Messenger's JSON stores accented characters and emoji as mojibake; the PDF converter decodes it the same way the viewer does, so names and messages read correctly instead of garbled.

Photos embedded, not just linked

Photos from your export's media folders are embedded directly in the PDF pages, in sending order.

Private by architecture

No account, no upload, no server-side processing. The PDF and its SHA-256 hash are both generated on your machine.

How a Messenger export becomes a PDF

The converter reads the same message_1.json (and any continuation files) that the viewer does, decoding Meta's mojibake text encoding so accents, emoji and non-Latin scripts render correctly. Messages are laid out as pages in sending order, with photos from the export's media folders embedded in place.

Remember that Facebook only offers JSON for Messenger, not HTML — request the download in that format, and drop the whole delivered zip here rather than a single file if the thread is long, so the PDF covers everything.

When you need the court-ready version

Messenger conversations turn up in employment, harassment and family disputes regularly, and screenshots alone invite doubt about what was cropped out. The Court-ready PDF produces the complete thread with a cover page, sequential numbering, Bates stamps and SHA-256 hashes of both the original export and the finished PDF.

It cannot guarantee a specific court's acceptance — that depends on your jurisdiction and the rest of your evidence, and this is not legal advice. The prefilled certificate template still needs to be reviewed and signed by the person who requested the data.

Questions people ask

Is it private?

Yes. Your Messenger export never leaves your device — parsing, PDF generation and hashing all happen locally in your browser.

Can I use it in court?

The Court-ready PDF produces a complete transcript with a cover page, sequential numbering, Bates stamps, SHA-256 hashes and a certificate template. Whether a specific court accepts it depends on your jurisdiction and the rest of your evidence — this is not legal advice, and the certificate must be signed by whoever downloaded the data.

How do I export Messenger chats to PDF?

Download your Facebook data as JSON, drop the zip here, click Export PDF, and choose a tier. Free covers the first 500 messages with a watermark; Unlimited ($9) covers every message with embedded photos; Court-ready ($19) adds Bates stamps and hashes.

Why isn't HTML available for Messenger exports?

Facebook only offers JSON as the download format for the Messages category — HTML is available for some other categories but not this one. Request JSON and this tool handles the rest.

Will the PDF fix the garbled text in my export?

Yes. Messenger's JSON encodes accented characters and emoji as mojibake; the PDF decodes it the same way the viewer does, so the document reads correctly.

Does this work for Messenger group chats?

Yes, the same converter handles group threads, including per-sender names.
