How a Signal export becomes a PDF
Since Signal has no official export, the source file always comes from the open-source signal-export tool reading Signal Desktop's local database. The converter reads the resulting markdown or text file the same way the viewer does, laying out each message as a page in sending order with attachments from the media folder embedded in place.
Because the file records local machine time rather than UTC, it's worth exporting on the same computer and timezone the messages were originally received on when that level of precision matters — the court-ready tier notes the timezone basis on its cover page either way.
When you need the court-ready version
Signal conversations often carry particular weight in a case precisely because people choose Signal for sensitive discussions. The Court-ready PDF produces the complete conversation with a cover page, sequential numbering, Bates stamps and SHA-256 hashes of both the original export and the finished PDF, so integrity can be verified later.
It cannot guarantee a specific court's acceptance — that depends on your jurisdiction and the rest of your evidence, and this is not legal advice. The prefilled certificate template still needs to be reviewed and signed by the person who actually ran the export.
